The ENA campaign Buckle-Up Colorado, supporting Click it or Ticket (coordinated by Karen Maciejko on behalf of the Emergency Nurses Association-Colorado State Council) ran from May 18-June 3 in Emergency Departments throughout the state of Colorado. ENA had 25 participating facilities this year, with approximately 350 participating nurses giving information about motor vehicle injuries and deaths and reminding them to buckle up, and reached an estimated 8589 people. ENA hung posters, shared CDOT table tents and fact sheets from 2012, and distributed flyers containing statistics on motor vehicle crashes, how serious injury and death can be prevented by use of safety belts.
Costs incurred were from the print shop for flyers and posters: $1265, and mailing expenses of $142.66 for a total cost of $1407.66.
Evaluations were sent out after the conclusion of the campaign asking the number of people reached, nurses participating, comments or suggestions and if facilities were interested and willing to participate next year.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, as Click it or Ticket is a highly visible and successful campaign. The ENA and participating facilities were happy to support these national efforts, reaching patients and families by using trusted professionals and taking advantage of a teachable moment in the ED to promote seat belt use.
